Richard Stander Daybell

Richard Stander Daybell, 84, of Newport VT passed away with his family by him, following a stroke.

Richard was born in Salt Lake City, UT, in 1942 to Paul Hansen and Mary Stander Daybell, and grew up there. After graduating from the University of Utah, he and his wife Linda traveled to the east coast, living in New York City, Albany NY, Ithaca NY, Brandon VT, and Lincoln VT before moving to Newport.

He was an editor by trade, a writer by vocation, and a cook, gardener, and traveler by passion. He and Linda made several trips to the Caribbean in their younger days, generating inspiration for many of his short stories. In more recent years, their travels took them across the United States, Canada, and Europe.

He lived for the future. He was planning next year's garden while he was weeding this one; planning the next house project before the current one was complete; and had more years of trips planned than he had years of travel left.

Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years and friend of 70, Linda; his son Morgan Daybell and daughter-in-law Beth Crane of Montgomery VT; grandson Roman Daybell and fiancee Sami Love of Glendale, AZ; sister Kristin Wheeler of Salt Lake City, UT; favorite niece Alyson Schill and husband Ryan Eastwick of Olympia, WA; and nearly-adopted son John Zieske and wife Denise of Altamont, NY. He also leaves behind many nephews, dear friends, in-laws, and outlaws.

"He's done with feasting and with drinking,

With Burgundy and Bouillabaisse."

We miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, he would rather you read some Twain or Steinbeck, travel to where you don't speak the language, plant some new flowers that might just survive in your climate, and cook a great meal for those you love.

Richard's family is immensely grateful to the staff at North Country Hospital. You have all been stellar.
