Rachel Ann Lafont
Rachel (Urie) Lafont passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born on April 8, 1934 to Foster and Bessie (Stone) Urie, the youngest of five children.
Rachel spent most of her years on Miles Hill Farm in East Albany farming alongside her husband Richard where they raised their four children. After the children were grown, she ran a successful Bed and Breakfast on the farm. Once they retired from farming, she worked as a cook at the Glover School and volunteered as a driver for RCT. One of her favorite jobs was serving as librarian at the Albany Library.
Rachel will be remembered for her hard work, natural ability to cook a great meal, love of reading and puzzles, service to her community and devotion to her family. She took great pride in being Gram to her beloved grandchildren.
Rachel is survived by her four children, Robert Lafont; Marcia Therrien and her husband, Ken; Raymond Lafont and his wife, Jean; and Margaret Viens and her husband, Randy and her sister-in-law, Lois Taylor. She also leaves nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her daughter-in-law, Janet Taplin; and her grandson, Robin Lafont as well as her parents, and siblings, Janet Urie, Jean Borland, James Urie and Robert Urie.
A service celebrating Rachel’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the West Glover Church. Burial will follow at the Andersonville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rachel’s memory may be made to the Building Restoration Fund, West Glover Church, 2516 Bean Hill Rd, West Glover, VT 05875.
