Penelope Gail Thomas, 85 of Morgan, VT passed away surrounded by her family on September 20, 2026 after declining health.
She was born February 2, 1941 in Vermont, daughter of the late Fred and Beatrice Kipp (Smith). She lived in Newport, VT during her childhood.
She earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary education from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH. She worked as a 5th grade teacher at Beech St. School in Manchester, NH until her retirement. She then owned and ran the Morgan Country Store in Morgan, VT for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Northrup Thomas in 1978. Together, they had two children; Glen David Thomas of Phoenix, AZ and John Mark Thomas of Manchester, NH.
Penny was very active and social throughout her life, a devoted mother, grandmother, Aunt and friend to many. She started the South Jr. Deb softball organization in Manchester, NH, and loved "her girls" that she coached. Later, she was part of the Morgan, VT Circle of Friends, and the Border Curling Club, Stanstead, Quebec.
Penny leaves behind her two sons, Glen and John Mark, a daughter- in- law Sabrina Thomas, a grandson Jack M. Thomas and his fiancée Briona Heon of Derry, NH and a granddaughter Alanna Mansfield of Phoenix, AZ. Also her stepmother Marilyn Kipp, brother John David Kipp, sisters Sarah Hoadley (Gary), Jennifer Young (Gary), sisters Maureen Gilpatrick and Nancy Gilpatrick and was preceded in death by her sister Sue Place (Ron). Also, nieces Mary Hoadley, Meagan Graser (Kurt), Julie Bowe and Elizabeth McElehaney (Justin), and nephews Matthew Hoadley (Jennifer), Jim Kipp (Carolyn), John Paul Kipp (Melissa) and Josiah Young (Amanda). And many more grand nephews and grand nieces. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Otis.
Penny was an animal and nature lover, avid bird watcher, gardener and painter. She treasured her home on Seymour Lake, listening to the loons.
A funeral service will be held at Curtis Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road in Derby, VT on Saturday October 24, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday October 24,2026 from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the funeral. Burial will be private. On-line condolences are entrusted to the care of Cutis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home, & Cremation Service, locally family owned and operated.
