Marion Edith (Champagne) Cole, a long-time resident of Island Pond, Vermont, passed away on October 18,2026 at the age of 95.
Marion was the daughter of John and Ila (Bemis) Champagne. She grew up in the area and attended Brighton High School until her senior year. On November 17, 1950, Marion married Neil Moulton, and together they welcomed two daughters, Betty Mae and Mary Lou. Following Neil’s passing, Marion later found love again and married Wayne G. Cole of Island Pond on June 14, 1953. Through this marriage, she welcomed two sons, Wayne B. and Raymond A., and gained a daughter, Zanita.
Above all else, family was the center of Marion’s world. Her greatest joy came from being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and she took immense pride in the large, loving family she built. She spent her adult life working hard, spending many years working in local restaurants, providing housekeeping services, and later taking a position at the Ethan Allen Furniture Factory in Island Pond, where she worked dedicatedly until her retirement.
While her children were growing up, she was deeply involved in their lives and her community. She volunteered countless hours with Little League, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Pony League, and served as a leader for her church youth group. In her younger years, Marion loved nothing more than hitting the floor for dancing and roller skating. Throughout her life, she was an avid outdoorswoman who cherished hunting and fishing trips with her family. In her quieter moments, she could always be found working on a puzzle, a crossword, or a word find.
Marion was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her brother, Leon A. Champagne; both of her husbands, Neil and Wayne; her daughters, Betty Mae Ellam (Moulton) and Mary Lou Moulton; her son-in-law, Cary "Pete" (husband of Mary Lou); and her granddaughter, Susan Plummer (Moulton).
Marion’s deeply rooted family legacy will be carried on by her children: Wayne B. Cole and his wife Karen of Island Pond, VT; Raymond A. Cole and his wife Judy of Waverly, VA; Zanita (Bacon) Morin and her husband Bob of Milan, NH; and her son-in-law, Roy Ellam of Derby, VT. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren: Lynn Moulton (Gordon), Tina Ellam-Peck and her husband Scott, Peggy McAllister and her husband Pete, Bri-Anne Glover and her husband Michael, Terry Lyn Cole, Wayne C. Cole and his significant other Shire, John Cole and his wife Karena, Matthew Hawkins and his wife Jolinda, and Nathan Hawkins and his wife Denise.
Her legacy also lives on through her 26 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Brooke, Taylor, Cary, Dustin, Brandon, Tyler, Tiegan, Tristin, Trenton, Matthew, Kayleigh, Isabella, William, Cooper, Stephen, Skylar, Huxley, Phoenix, Nicolas, Elijah, Owen, Sydney, Jonathan, Nelson, and Amy; a handful of great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 31, 2026 at the Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad Street, Island Pond at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Michael DeSena officiating.
