David Ralph Myers – June 3, 1946 – October 29, 2026
David Ralph Myers passed away on October 29, 2026 at the age of 80.
Born on June 3, 1946 in Newport, VT, David was the first son, second child of Stuart and Ferol (nee Hinman) Myers.
David spent nearly his entire life in Newport, where in his younger years, was a great athlete, excelling at baseball and skiing. And throughout his life, was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In high school, he met his loving wife, Heather (nee Thayer), where they married in 1967, and moved for a brief time to Lancaster, PA where David trained to be a jeweler and watchmaker. After completing trade school, David and Heather moved back to Newport, where David spent his career as a jeweler first at Nealy’s Jewelers, which he took over from, and the business became Myers Jewelry. Myers Jewelry was a fixture on Main Street in Newport until December 2012, when David retired.
David always had a plethora of dad jokes which garnered many sighs and eye rolls from family. You couldn’t drive by a cemetery with him without him saying ‘People are dying to get in there.’ He was always eager to talk about hunting or fishing or all the delicious foods he has eaten. Not always the one to say much or show much emotion, he expressed how he cared in buying small treats for those he loved.
He is predeceased by his parents, Stuart and Ferol, and his wife Heather. David leaves behind his four children and their spouses, David and Casey, Rae and Randy, Matt and Heidi, and Bethany and Richard; his grandchildren Meghan, David, Alexis, Brandon, Sydney, Nolan, and Thayer; and his great grandchildren, Jackson and Silas.
In David’s last couple years, he was a repeated victim of romance scams, which his family wants to bring awareness about. A romance scam is where a con-artist fabricates a romantic relationship or dear friendship of confidence with their victim. These con-artists are masters of social manipulation, very patient, and are extremely skilled at forming these connections. Eventually, they convince their victim they need financial help and end up stealing thousands of dollars.
As a result of David being a victim of many, repeated romance scams, his children needed to step in to prevent him from bankrupting himself. This intervention caused a massive rift in the family, which is why his children want to bring awareness about this heinous scam. His family is heartbroken that such drastic steps needed to be taken and hope that by bringing awareness to this, that it can prevent this for your family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AARP where they offer assistance and resources for the scam victims and for the victim’s family and friends. Or, donations made to the American Diabetes Association.
