Obituary

Terry Faulkner Phillips, 93, of Morgan,, passed away on October 25, 2022 at Hidden Creek.  She was surrounded by her son Charley and several care givers who had provided loving care for her over the years.  Mrs. Phillips was born on July 23, 1929 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Donald and Isabel (ne' Birdeau) Faulkner.  She was married to Charles Weston Phillips on March 27, 1954.  Mr. Phillips predeceased her.

She graduated from the St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Virginia.  She went on to graduate from Sweetbriar College in Virginia, where she received a Bachelor's degree in English.   Her class yearbook described her as being a "... genuine individual whose interest in people and willingness to lend a hand is boundless.....Terry could show you what the meaning of the word friend is".

Mrs. Phillips was an avid skier, tennis player and bridge player.  She was also a dog and obedience trainer in Lexington, Virginia, and, she enjoyed hiking and walking with her many dogs at Hidden Creek.  In her younger years, both she and her loving sister Closey worked during the summer at Quimby's in Norton, Vermont, a well-known summer resort.

Terry was also a member of the Garret Club of Buffalo, New York.  She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal church in Buffalo and the R.E. Lee Episcopal church in Lexington.  In recent years, she became a member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newport, Vermont and was ministered by the Rev. Bob Wilson.  She was also active in the past with the Circle of Friends in Morgan.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son Charles W. Phillips, Jr. and his spouse Gwyn Phillips, both of Black Mountain, North Carolina.  Also by her grandchildren, Sophia Phillips of Asheville, N.C.  and Kyle Phillips of Black Mountain.  Other surviving relatives include her brother Donald Faulkner, Jr. and his wife Mary, both of Woodstock, Vermont, many nieces and nephews including Mack Faulkner and his wife Mary Yvonne of Richmond, Va., Cecilia Soscia and her husband John of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jim Faulkner and his wife Sol of Charleston, South Carolina, Whit Dickey, Jr. of Brooklyn, New York, Lawrence "Spoon" Dickey and his wife Renee of Palm Desert, California,  John Dickey and his wife Julie of South Hamilton, Massachusets,  Colt Dickey and his wife Lynn of San Rafael, California, Closey Giffen and her husband Bruce of Anchorage, Alaska, Don Dickey (deceased),  and, sister-in-law Martha Faulkner of Richmond, Virginia.

Her godson, the Rev. John Middleton of Missouri, will attend and officiate (in concert with the Rev. Bob Wilson) at services to be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Newport, Vermont.

Terry also had a staff of loving care givers for several years, many of whom were able to visit with her recently.  Terry was famous for her keen sense of humor, and, had many friends in Richmond, Buffalo and Lexington, Virginia.

She was predeceased by her daughter Terry Philllips, who passed in 1985, and, her loving sister Closey Dickey, formerly of Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Services are to held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 44 2 nd Street, Newport, Vermont at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Terry's name many be made to the Orleans-Essex Visiting Nurse Association (Orleans Esssex VNA & Hospice), 46 Lakemont Road, Newport, VT 05855.
