Stephen L. Campbell Sr.
February 4, 1947 – December 13, 2024
Stephen L. Campbell Sr., of Glover, Vermont, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Steve was a visionary, a dreamer, and a tireless worker. A devoted father, caring grandfather, and loving husband, he leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and quiet determination that will forever inspire those who knew him. Born on February 4, 1947, in Newton, Massachusetts, to John and Geraldine (Lee) Campbell, Steve spent his early years on a farm in Waldoboro, Maine, before moving to Wellesley, Massachusetts. It was during these formative years that he developed a deep love for the land, a passion for hard work, and a resilience that would guide him throughout his life.
Steve served his country with distinction, completing two tours in Vietnam as a proud Marine, demonstrating extraordinary courage and sacrifice. A recipient of the Purple Heart, he endured the hardship of captivity as a POW but emerged with an unshakable strength and courage that became the foundation of his character. Following the war, Steve explored the country as a long-distance trucker and worked as a skilled carpenter. In 1985, seeking a quieter and more fulfilling life, he and his family settled in Glover, Vermont, where they created Little By Little Farm. There, amidst rolling fields and the quiet beauty of rural life, Steve found his true home. A talented woodworker and creative tinkerer, he poured his heart into farm life, crafting, fixing, and dreaming. Steve also found joy in life's simple pleasures: oldies music, dancing, camping, painting, campfires, and immersing himself in nature.
Steve was predeceased by his brothers Ronnie, Fred, and Bruce. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne M. Campbell; his brothers John of Bellingham, MA., and David and his wife Toni of Friendship, ME. His children, Jillian and her husband Bobby of Glover, VT.; Shaun of Lyndonville, VT.; Stephen of AZ.; William and his wife Tina of Franklin, MA.; James and his partner Terri of Worcester, MA.; Kimberley of Concord, VT.; Jason and his wife Joanne of Bellingham, MA.; George Leal and his wife Jen of Essex Junction, VT.; and Amy Leal of Glover, VT. Steve was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Steve's life was defined by courage, creativity, and unwavering love for his family. He poured his heart and soul into his family, his farm, and his crafts, always dreaming and looking forward. Whether he was building something with his hands, sharing stories around a campfire, or dancing to his favorite tunes, Steve embraced life with a joyous spirit. Though he has left this world, Steve's spirit will live on in the land that he loved, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he touched. Those who knew him will remember his humor, heart and wisdom. He will be deeply missed but forever held in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and will never be forgotten.
Full military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday January 4, 2025 at his late residence 1044 Still Hill Road, Glover.
