Obituary for Sherie T. Lucas  (11/1/56-2/21/26)

Sherie Ann-Twombly Lucas, 69, of West Charleston V T, passed away on February 21, 2026, after a brief battle with brain cancer with family by her side. Sherie was born in Springfield, VT on November 1, 1956, to Harold and Jeannine Twombly of Westfield, VT. Sherie's teenage years were some of her most special, living with her Uncle Bernard on his farm in Irasburg, VT, a period in her life that she frequently recounted as peaceful, simple, and perfect. She met her husband, Stephen, while working at Bogner Ski Apparel in 1977, and after shutting him down twice, she finally agreed to a date. They were married for forty-four years. Together they built a beautiful family that includes their daughter: Sarah Jenness and her husband Tim Jenness and their two children, Grant and Quincey Jenness of West Charleston, VT. As well as their daughter Carrie Lucas and her significant other Victor Carter of Coventry, VT. She is survived by her mother, Jeannine Taylor and husband Bernie Taylor, her brother Michael Twombly and his wife Diane, her Sister Lori Ward and her significant other Chris Dillion. Sherie is also survived by her special friends and second family, Lisa Boskind, Diane Jacobs and Steve Eisenburg.

Family was everything to Sherie and she loved nothing more than spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. Grant and Quincey were a source of her greatest joy, teaching them both "Grandma will get it for you" before they could speak. As a lifelong lover of the water, she adored spending her summers with her friends and family at Echo, Willoughby, Seymore Lake swimming, boating and fishing (as the Co-Captain of the Yellow Jig) She was also an Assistant Coach with Stephen for many of their daughter's sports teams. What she lacked in athletic prowess, she made up with water bottles on the ready, band aids, love and ice cream. Sherie never met a French fry or onion ring that she didn't like and upon retirement from teaching vowed to never cook again. Those who knew her well knew that Sherie could have had a second calling as a food critic and Chopped Judge on Food Network. After hanging up her teacher's badge, she was able to transition into her ideal schedule of a daily Walmart trip, lunch with her mom, and an evening with a Hallmark movie in her favorite chair.

Sherie was a lifelong Special Educator and foster parent. She graduated from Johnson State College in 1980, after which she taught in a one room schoolhouse in Wolcott, VT. She then moved on to North Country Union High School for forty-four years. She was known to friends and family as "Sarge" a nickname that emulated her strong, confident, loving and fierce nature. She has touched the lives of three generations of students and families in her community. Children were her mission, her passion, and her life-long devotion. To honor that legacy of love and dedication, the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the NCSU Community Schools Program at 122 Duchess Ave. Newport, VT 05855.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newport, VT on Saturday March 7, 2026, at 11am. A celebration of life will be held  at a later date  at the convenience of her family. On-line condolences are welcome at curtis-britch.com.
