Obituary

Ronald Gordon Benson ( George) 88 of Newport Vt. passed away surrounded by his family on Feb. 21st at North Country Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1935 in New Boston Ohio. Ron was the son of Homer & Edna Benson of Ohio. He graduated from East High School, where he played football during those years. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served on Cape Cod MA as a mechanic on the flight line. He was discharged after 4 years of service on Jan. 17th 1959, and moved to Newport Vt. to marry the love of his life Benita L Mosher at the Newport Baptist Church on the 23rd of January 1959. After a short honeymoon they returned to Newport to live out their lives in service to the area. He was an auto mechanic at several area locations and finally opened his own business R & B Front End Alignment.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 65, American Legion post 21, & Cars of Yesteryears. He loved to restore 1951 Fords. ( He restored 5 total himself). He was a member of the United Church of Newport, were he enjoyed helping with chicken pie dinners and the monthly luncheons. He enjoyed cooking whenever he was able to help. ( Except peeling Garlic).

He is predeceased by his Parents, love of his life Benita after 63 ½ years. Sister & Brother in-law Edyth & Jozef Krzysko, Sister Linda & William Nichols.

Left to Cherish his Memory Daughters Susan Groff ( Gary Chagnon) Rhonda (Roy) Bullis. His Grandchildren Leanne (Kris) Perras, Samantha Bullis(Levi Booska) ,Bryanne Orisko ( Dan) & Jamie Groff( Teaona Dresser).. Great grandkids Rylee, Jacob, Damien, Daniel, Ryder, Bohannon, Liberty & Emerson. Also remembering him: Sister Pat Cleland ( James), Niece Joan (Dave) , Nephew Larry (Michelle) , Billy ( Becky Nichols, Krista Nichols, Mark (Rachel), Jay (Jackie), Kent ( Karen) Cleland.

He had a special love for the NCUHS Auto Tech dept. where he sometimes mentored. (Thanks for all their car help).

Visit & Services will be held at the United Church of Newport on May 16th 2024 at 11am. Luncheon to follow service with Burial of Ron & Benita following at Pine Grove Cemetery with full military honors for Ron shortly after the luncheon.
