Rich loved to volunteer his time and to help people.  Rich was a volunteer firefighter during his time in New York.  Rich had been a member of the Eagles and Elks in Newport.  He loved to cook for events, whether it was fundraiser chicken BBQ's, church socials, specials for bingo on Thursday nights or a family gathering.  Rich also called Bingo on Sundays at the American Legion in Newport.  Rich loved to meet new people and help wherever he could.

Richard is survived by his longtime fiance, Stephanie Bowen of Newport, his mother Donna Heichel and brother Josh of Fruitland Park, FL, his sister Melisa Powley and her husband Tim of Granville, NY, daughters Lindsey Heichel and Brittany Trautwein and her husband Wally of Lockport, NY, and two ladies who he considered his daughters, Cari Crawford and her husband Timothy Dagesse of Barton and Briana Crawford and her partner Zachary Lyonnais of Newport.  Richard took pride in his grandchildren and loved them dearly, Landon, Emily, Dakota, Jordan, Isaac, Savannah, Madison & husband Glen, Tyler and Lily and great grandson Braxton.  Rich had an extended family he adored, but a very close relationship that he kept close to his heart was with his Aunt Pat Hand of Geneva, NY.  Richard also leaves behind several nieces and nephews Erika. Bela, Nickie, Brian, Chris & Chloe and close friends Rupert & Tracy Webster of Brownington.  Rich has a real love for animals, especially dogs.  Rich leaves behind two of his favorites Yoda and Cooper.  Rich was predeceased by his father Richard, uncle John Hand, niece Kayla Babus and cousin Ralph Anderson.
