Obituary

Richard "Rick" A Searles, 67 of Holland, Vermont, formally from Westminster, Vermont, passed away, Tuesday May 5,2026 peacefully at home, in his tiny house that he loved so much, after a long hard fight with Cancer.

Richard was born May 19,1958 in Newport, New Hampshire to Robert and Joyce (Johnson) Searles. He graduated from Bellows Falls Union High School in 1978. He went on to be a diesel mechanic at Keats Equipment in Keene, New Hampshire. After many years there he went on to work with his father in Penn Yan, New York and finally settling in, in Holland and working for many kind farmers that appreciated the hard work and knowledge that he had for farm equipment.

His passion was hunting. He thought about it year-round and looked forward to every season. He had many successful hunts. This passion was something that he was so proud to pass down to his grandson Bentley. If something had a motor, he could fix it. In his younger years he had the need for speed. The faster something was the happier he was.  He was great at improvising to make something work. If he wasn't fixing something with a motor he was sitting at the table with his graph paper notebook, sketching his next build that he had in mind. He loved to work with wood, which led him to build his lovely tiny home that he loved to show off.

He is survived by his mother Joyce Searles and his sister Linda (Chris)Flagg of Spofford, New Hampshire and two daughters Katie (Daniel)Hawley of Holland, Vermont and Karen (Ryan) Stoodley of Westminster, Vermont. His only grandson Bentley and his five granddaughters, Alexis, Isabella, Delaney, Rachel, and McKenna. Along with Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father Robert Searles, brother Arnold "Spumky" Howland.

There will be a celebration of Rick's life at his home in Holland, Vermont at 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 6th.
