Obituary

Kenneth Everett Putman, age 75, of Newport, VT, passed away on November 1, 2025, in Newport after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born on July 6, 1950, in Schenectady, NY, to the late Richard Everett Putman and Arlene Schild.

Ken grew up in Camillus, NY, and after graduating from West Genesee High School, he attended Paul Smith's College and graduated in 1971 with an Associate in Applied Science. He worked several years for SEARS as an appliance service technician before starting his own repair business in the Newport area. Ken later moved to Florida to pursue his passion for aviation, he had gotten his private pilot's license while in high school and was determined to get a commercial pilot's license. He diligently worked and received his dream. He flew commuters, corporate, medical and charter planes and  maintained active memberships with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). A true aviation enthusiast, he finished building an experimental plane and flew it cross-country and many times to Vermont.

Ken married Marylee Webster on February 14, 1990, and they shared 35 wonderful years together.

In his early years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing, racquetball and golfing, winning the Newport Country Club Championship in 1982. In later years, he found joy in motorcycle riding, traveling with Marylee in their motorhome, and riding the Hatfield-McCoy side-by-side trails in West Virginia. A true "fix-it man," he loved filling his time with home projects and living life to the fullest, splitting his time between wintering in Florida and enjoying his lake house on Lake Memphremagog in Newport, Vermont which he rebuilt, a project that took 3 summers to accomplish.

Ken was a kind, simple man who enjoyed inexpensive beer, Taco Tuesdays at the Tavern on the Hill, he enjoyed helping family with mowing of lawns and was a parttime shuttle driver delivering parts with his sidekick Skip. He loved music and dancing and had started a list of his favorite songs to play for others to enjoy.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Marylee Putman and a blended family; his daughter: Carrie Ann Roberge and husband Toni, and Marylee's children: Rebecca Goulet and husband Jerry, Jessica Gaudreau and husband Eddy, Abby Provost and partner Richard, and Josh Provost and wife Amy. He leaves behind eleven cherished grandchildren: Henri, Elizabeth, Jacob, Patrick, Cameron, Sylvia, Ben, Brady, Isabel, Tripp, and Bryce. He is also survived by his sister, Tina (Tom) Jewett, and his brother, Bruce (Marylou) Putman. Also survived by his former wife Betsy (Wayne) Sylvester and several nieces and nephews.
