John R.
Urie Jr.
Dec 5, 1943 — Aug 7, 2026
John R Urie Jr passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side, on August 7th 2026. John was born December 5th 1943 in Barton, VT, while his father was away in World War II. His father did not know he was born until March of 1944. John was a hard working man, and did so many things throughout his life, he was an over the road truck driver for Ethan Allen, he was a driver for Calkins Redi-mix and Carroll Concrete for 44 years.
He was a beekeeper, he was a sugar maker, he was a logger, and he was a fixer of all things. John took so much pride in his work. He built his first beautiful home where he raised his 3 kids in 1977 with his father right beside him, and then the home of his dreams which was built on family land in 2002, again with his father by his side again. Everyone knew him to be a quiet man, and somehow he was always the life of a party. He would get everybody laughing with his jokes, and his sarcastic remarks.
He loved to dance, to play cards and although he would tell you he didn't love a crowd, he always loved a good get together. One of his greatest passions was hunting, and over the years he spent some of his best days hunting with Brad, with most of his grandchildren and lots of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was an avid hunter, and over the years, I think the bucks that made him the most proud were the ones that he got right off the porch of his house. John and his partner Ginny Brown would spend countless hours watching all of the wildlife that would come to say hello! Even on John's last day he had turkeys, a bear and a couple of deer show up to the back yard.
John appeared to have a tough outer shell, but man did he love the role of being a father and a grandfather. He was blessed with 12 amazing grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and another on the way. He was so very proud of every single one of them. John was soft and steady. He spoke with his actions and showed us love in a thousand silent ways. He always had purpose. He had a great love for sports, especially baseball and basketball, I believe that is when his friend's coined the phrase Big John in high school! John had so many special people in his life, his family, close friends, cousins, coworkers. In fact, growing up there were 60 1st cousins.
John is survived in life by his partner of 23 years, Ginny Brown, his children Bradley Urie, and wife Chastity, Amy Giroux, and husband Mark, and Amanda Gongloff and husband Luke. John, is also survived by sisters Bonnie Ingalls, Caroline Langmaid and husband Francis and Butch Currier whom John always considered a brother and his wife Bonnie. His 12 grandchildren Shaquille, Tyrah (Andrew) Riley, Alex (Katelynn), Carley, Grace (Matthew) Austin, Megan (Matt), Matthew (Emma), Melanie (Evan), Annabella and Lucas. John is also survived by his 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents John R Urie Sr, Yvonne Diette Urie, his step mother Pearl Richardson Urie, and his sister Gloria Urie.
