Obituary

V. D.

John Albert Marrier, Jr., 74, of Burlington, Vermont.

John passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at North Country Hospital, Newport, Vermont surrounded by his family.

Born on June 15, 1950, in Burlington, Vermont, John's lifelong passions included riding his Harley Davidson and deer hunting. He was an avid hunter who loved embracing the tranquility and the thrill of the hunt with those closest to him. Riding his Harley Davidson, especially his beloved Fatboy, brought him immense joy. In fact, even the day before his passing, he asked his family to update the clutch on his bike.  He also maintained an impressive gun collection. For those observant enough, examining his collection could evoke images of different eras: the duels of the Wild West, the battlefields of World War I and II, and weaponry of modern times.

He served his country honorably as a Vietnam veteran in the Navy, working in a nuclear submarine, which instilled in him a deep sense of duty and pride.

In addition to his commanding presence, those close to him knew John as complex, deeply loving, and a thoughtful man. Always ready to share a laugh, John could be brutally honest about himself, never hiding behind excuses. He embraced his entire self, openly acknowledging both his mistakes and accomplishments with genuine authenticity. He was an undisputed champion of bravery all the way to his last moments with us.

John was predeceased by his son, Eric, and his parents, John and Theresa (Fontaine) Marrier. He leaves behind his spouse, Marnie (Blondin), his siblings: Jacqueline Paquette (husband Kevin), Linda (husband Ron Bosley), James (wife Linda), and Ronald (wife Eileen), as well as his cherished nephew, Justin Marrier.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held at St. Mark's Church in Burlington on Friday February 21, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.. The family suggests donations to North Country Hospital, 189 Prouty Drive, Newport, Vermont, in lieu of flowers. A private burial service will be scheduled in the summer. Online condolences may be made at curtis-britch.com. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home & Cremation Service, locally family owned and operated.
