Obituary

John Carlton Daniels   -   July 3, 1941 to May 23, 2024

John passed away on May 23, 2024 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH following a period of declining health, with son Erik by his side.

John, known to family and friends as "Bucky", was born on July 3, 1941 at the family farm in Norton, Vermont to Percy Ernest and Ethel Ira (Markwell) Daniels.

John served in The US Air Force from 1959 to 1963. During that time, he was based at Shaw Air Force base in Sumter, SC.  After the Air Force he worked as a marine craft mechanic for several businesses in the SC area, starting with Carolina Hardware in Sumter, SC.

He later moved back to Vermont and was employed by Ethan Allen in Beecher Falls, VT working in the maintenance department.  In 1983 he joined the Vermont Air National Guard, working 23 years with the "Green Mountain Boys" 158th FW F-16 Squadron, primarily as a fuel systems crewman.

After retiring from the Air National Guard in 2006 he worked at Quimby Country in Averill, VT where he did repairs and maintenance on the cabins and property.   Like his father, Percy, he also served as a fishing guide for the guests.

Bucky was an avid fisherman spending countless hours on local lakes and ponds including Big Averill, Little Averill, Norton Lake and Forest Lake.  After retiring he also spent many hours tying flies for fly-fishing.  He also enjoyed bird watching and listening/dancing to music.

He leaves behind his children and grandchildren:  John (Danny) Daniels, Jr. and wife Jo-Anne of Sumter, SC, Erik Daniels and partner Jennifer Keazer of Colebrook, NH and Krista Dupre and husband John of North Sutton, NH; grandchildren Janelle, Easton and Arienne Dupre.

He is also survived by his sisters Patricia Hadlock of Island Pond, VT and Elizabeth (Bethy) Daniels of Dade City, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Percy and Ethel Daniels, his sister Margorie Kidder and brother Robert (Tommy) Daniels.

A private ceremony at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT will be held and another in Island Pond, VT for family and friends at a later date.
