Jerry Wayne
Prue
Feb 19, 1944 — Jun 6, 2026
Jerry Wayne Prue, 82 of Newport, Vermont passed peacefully on the evening of June 6th, 2026 with his wife and family by his side.
Jerry was born in Irasburg, Vermont to Sheridan Prue Sr. and Dora Prue. Jerry's roots were firmly planted in the hard work of his family's farm. He later moved south, spending his younger years in Virginia attending Blackstone High School. Jerry began working at a young age, a path that reflected the dedication and strong work ethic he carried throughout his life.
Jerry was a man who wasn't afraid to roll up his sleeves and put in a hard day's labor. He was a jack of all trades. From cutting brush, logging, tying flies, selling perch, farming, building and working construction. He made it all look effortless. Jerry found his professional home as a heavy equipment operator for Winterset, where he stayed for over 30 years.
He was fond of fishing anytime of the year. Whether it was fishing on a riverbank or in negative temperatures on the ice, he was there. During the winter, he had friends calling every day for a pound of perch filets. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting a wide variety of wildlife. Later in life he enjoyed taking drives with his dog Opal to see the wildlife and horses. He took pride in building the barn the horses are housed in today, always bringing them a peppermint on his daily visits. He knew how to make others laugh just with the look on his face or the few words that he said.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Scott Prue, sister Sally Prue, brother James Prue, brother Sheridan Prue jr., sister Terry Wright, and sister Myla Jean Prue Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife Cathryn Lantagne-Prue, stepdaughter Trisha Lantagne, granddaughter Hannah Lantagne, dear friend Luke Perry Sr., his son Jason Prue and his wife Kimberly Prue, grandchildren Hunter Prue and Jaqueline Prue, grandchildren Christian Prue and Jorden Prue, his son Jeremy Prue and his children Katelyn, Zoe, Isabella, Gianna, Lawson, Easton, daughter Jennifer Cook and her husband Brian Cook, granddaughter Addy Cook, his sisters Holly Willson of Virginia and Susan Osborne of Virginia, his brothers Larry Prue of Virginia, Russell Prue of Virginia, Ira Prue of Maryland, Nathan Prue of Delaware, Neil Prue of North Carolina.
Calling hours will be held Thursday June 18th, from 6:00-8:00pm at Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral home 37 Lake Road in Newport, Vermont with Reverand Richards officiating at 6pm. Online condolences are welcomed at curtis-britch.com. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral home & Cremation Service, locally family owned and operated.
