Gerard R. Martel passed away on August 5, 2026 at the age of 87. Jerry was born in Lewiston, Maine and grew up in New Britain, Connecticut, graduating from New Britain High School in 1957. He continued his education and graduated from Saint Michael's College in 1961 and was a career educator of social studies for 34 years at Canaan High School, Lake Region Union High School and North Country Union High School, retiring in 1997. Jerry loved teaching and his students. Outside the classroom, he found joy in coaching basketball, serving as an Orleans Village Trustee, playing a round of golf, and simply being with people.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, of 45 years, and his five children: Robert Martel, Tracie Yindra and her husband Chris, Cindy Steel and her husband Kyle Isreal, Lee-Anne Martin and her husband Tom, and Ed Tinker and his partner Justin Tan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud: Erica and Arie Labodi, Hannah and Georgia Yindra, Meridith and Lily Martin, and Christian and Mason Martel, and great-grandson Jaxson Clad. Jerry was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline, and sons Paul and Michael.

The family extends their thanks to Jerry's caregivers, Shelly Maxwell and Tonya Monfette, as well as the staff at Bel-Aire Center and Maple Lane Nursing Home.
