FREDERICK EARLE JACKSON
LAKE ALFRED, FL / ISLAND POND VT- Frederick Earle Jackson died on August 6, 2026. He was born in Colebrook, NH on June 24, 1934, the son of Harold and Henrietta (Washburn) Jackson. He was educated in Colebrook public schools, graduating from Colebrook Academy in June 1952. He married his high school sweetheart Janet Covell, who predeceased him after 57 years 3 months and 19 days of marriage.
He attended New Hampshire Technical Institute in Manchester, NH, graduating in 1955 with an associate's degree in Machine Shop Technology. Fred worked at IBM in Essex Junction, VT retiring in 1991 after 27 years. Following retirement, he did many odd jobs and volunteer work with his carpentry skills. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burlington, serving on boards and committees for years. He was also a member of the Seymour Lake Association in Morgan VT, St. Andrews Society of Vermont, NRA, Lake Champlain Squares, AARP, and Senior Net.
Fred devoted his life to the Masonic Order. He held many offices in local and state Masonic bodies. He belonged to Washington Lodge #3 F & AM, Burlington York Rite Bodies, Red Cross of Constantine, Knights of the York Cross of Honor, York Rite Sovereign College, Royal Order of Scotland, Sword of Bunker Hill, Temple Chapter No 75 Order of Eastern Star, Past Masters Association, and Cairo Temple Shrine. He was awarded the 33 Degree and served as Deputy for Vermont, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He traveled all over the state, New England, and the country meeting his brothers of the Order.
If Fred was missing, you knew that he could be found on a lake, pond, or river with a fishing rod in his hand. The fish of Seymour Lake, where he had a camp, knew him by his first name and his fishing songs. He passed his love of fishing on to anyone that would join him on Seymour Lake and his skills and fishing songs are now being passed on to future generations of the family. He traveled the world with his childhood friend Fred Cummings, son-in-law Bruce, and other fishing buddies in pursuit of the BIG ONE. He also enjoyed many seasons at the Green hunting camp in Stockbridge in pursuit of the elusive buck.
In his later years, Fred embraced a life filled with simple joys. Fred & Diane treasured their winters in Lake Alfred, Florida, where he filled his days with fishing, biking, card games, square dancing, shuffleboard, and countless activities with friends in their park. Summers brought him back home to Island Pond, Vermont, where he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and the places that had always meant so much to him.
Fred is survived by his loving life companion Diane Peck; his two daughters Kathryn Remick and her husband Bruce of Morgan VT, and Marilyn Mattick and her husband Tom of Henderson NV; Diane's three children Walter Daniels and wife Vicki of East Burke VT, Christine Jenks and husband Dusty of SC , and Marie Routhier and husband Alan of Essex VT; thirteen grandchildren Laura, Andy, Jason, Heather, Victoria, Allyssa, Jacob, Austin, Melena, Tyler, Erin, Arianna, and Hailey; fourteen great grandchildren Morgan, Colton, Madelyn, Jackson, Kailer, Kiena, Emma, Luke, Alice, Clarence, Evans, Calib, Aianna, Jupiter; sister-in-law Doris Tirrill of Phoenix, AZ and many lifelong friends.
