Obituary

Forrest (Dana) Cheney passed away on June 12, 2026 in his home surrounded by his loving family.  Dana was born in Newport, VT on June 5, 1951 to Francis E Cheney and Jeanette (Chilafoux) Cheney.  On June 15, 1974, Dana married the love of his life Kathleen Leblanc.  Together they raised three children Angie, Dana, and Joshua.  Dana and Kathy shared a love like no other and were able to celebrate 52 wonderful years together.

Dana was a hard working railroad man just like his father, right up to his retirement. However, the best part of Dana's day was always coming home to his family.  Dana's favorite memories included hunting or fishing with his dad, brother, nephews, sons and his grandchildren. Spending family time at the Cheney camp in Lowell, VT.  Camping every summer with his children and later with his grandchildren.  Skiing at Jay Peak when Angie, Dana, and Josh were young.  Riding the biggest and scariest roller coasters we could find. Trips to Florida to visit the Leblanc families.  Vacations to Cancun and Walt Disney World with his children and grandchildren, cruises to anywhere as long as Kathy was by his side, and most recently a Bermuda cruise with his family to celebrate 50 years of marriage to Kathy.

Family was everything to Dana.  It was a lesson he made sure that his children knew and passed on.  If you were lucky enough to call yourself a member of his family, you knew that he would be by your side through whatever life threw at you.  He had an amazing sense of humor and when he laughed he did so with his whole body.  He was strong and fierce when protecting those he loved.  He was soft and sensitive when giving comfort to anyone needing a shoulder.  Dana was loved by so many that it is impossible to put into words the depth at which he will be missed.

Dana is survived by his loving wife Kathy, his children Angie and her husband Jeremy of North Troy, Dana and his wife Vivian of Island Pond, Joshua and his love Kristen of Newport, his grandchildren Alexia and Brady Boivin, Katelin Booth, Aiden Cheney, Alanna Cheney, Quinton Cheney, and Abryanna Cheney.  He is also survived by his sisters Linda Caron, Mary Poulin, Bonnie Stone, Marie Cheney, brother-in-law David Leblanc and his wife Candy of North Troy, Brian Leblanc and his wife Jane of Florida, Roger Leblanc and his wife Patrica of Florida and Lori Starr of Florida.  Not to mention a large number of nieces and nephews.

Dana is predeceased by his parents Francis and Jeannette Cheney, parent-in-laws Gaston and Maxaleen Leblanc, his brother Francis Cheney II, brother-in-law Gaston Leblanc Jr, and his brother-in-law Alfred Caron.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. On-line condolences are welcome at curtis-britch.com.  Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home & Cremation Service, locally family owned and operated.
