Obituary

Floyd C. "Johnny" Jones Jr.

Glover, Vermont

Floyd C. "Johnny" Jones Jr., of Glover, Vermont, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026.

Born on June 30, 1949, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vermont, Floyd was the son of the late Floyd C. Jones Sr. and Marion Jones (Marshey). He grew up in Lamoille County and attended Lamoille Central Academy before answering the call to serve his country.

Floyd enlisted in the United States Army and completed two tours in Vietnam, serving from November 1968 to October 1970 and again from October 1970 to August 1972. He was honorably discharged, carrying with him the quiet strength and grit that would define the rest of his life.

He is survived by his former wife, Gloria Emerson, and their four children: Shasta Jones, Rowena Jones, Merina Sylvester and her spouse Joshua Sylvester Sr., and Johnathan Jones. He is also remembered as the proud grandfather of Tianna Gosselin, Riah Jones, Tylen Mayhew, Damien Mayhew, Jayden Jones, Kayden Jones, Adriana Sylvester, Nevaeh Jones, Joshua Sylvester Jr., and Gemma Sylvester, and great-grandfather to Axel Moses and Lily Moses, all of whom he loved deeply. Floyd may have had other biological children who were not in contact, Penny, Chris, Eric and Joni.

He leaves behind his sister, Rowena Lareau along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Floyd was predeceased by his parents, his brother Lewis Jones Sr., and his sister Donna Meserve.

To know Floyd was to know a man who lived loudly and loved even louder. He was complicated, stubborn at times, fiercely loyal always, and blessed with a heart big enough to fill any room. He'd dress up as Santa for his daughter's kindergarten class without hesitation, give a stranger the shirt off his back or a cold beer from the fridge, and cook meals that tasted like comfort itself. His kitchen was often alive with music, dancing, and laughter.

He loved fishing at daybreak, porch-sitting during summer storms, watching lightning split the sky, and sharing stories that grew better with every telling. Home, family, and simple moments meant everything to him.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the chance to truly know him.

Military services will be held at the family's convenience this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Vermont Paws & Boots 89 Colgate Heights, Bennington, VT 05201.

Arrangements are in the care of Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Homes
