Obituary

Thank you for joining us for the Celebration of Life for Everett Gonyer.

Everyone new Everett as PETE.

Pete was born on March 8, 1926, in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. He grew up in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Pete worked exceptionally long hours as a farm hand. Getting up at 3:00 a.m. in the morning and working till dark.

At the age of seventeen, he decided to join the Navy. Only thing stopping him was that he required his parents' signatures on a form before being accepted in 1943. Pete stayed in the Navy until 1949 and returned to the Air Force in 1951 taking a short break in between. Pete served in WW2 and Korea as a boatswain mate, gunner and did signal watches. He started as a carpenter in the Air Force and moved up to being a building craft Supervisor and Staff Sergeant.

Pete retired from the service in 1965 prior to being sent to Vietnam. This was perfect timing as if he was sent to Vietnam, he would not have met the love of his life Linda Teixeira.

They met at the bowling alley in Falmouth, Mass where Pete worked after the military for over 17 years. They did not date to long before he placed a ring on Linda's finger. Many people said that it would not last. They married on June 29, 1968, had their first child Manuel in October 1969, Julianna followed in 1971 and then Pete in 1975.

He also served as the Chaplain at the American Legion in North Troy Vermont. Where he was a member for over 26 years.

Pete's second love besides his family was being on the golf course. He was a member of the Cape Code Pro Am Golf league. Where he was the Treasurer for many years. In which time he got three  (3) holes in ones. One in 1979 and one in 1983 and most recent one was at Newport Country Club.  Pete continued golfing throughout his retirement years up to the age of ninety-five.

Another pastime of Pete's was Roller skating. During the military he learned to roller skate and later joined the Norfolk School of Skate Dancing.

Pete enjoyed Candlepin bowling, puzzles, and the love of supporting the local basketball and softball teams of Newport.

Pete loved nature. He was a volunteer for the Royal Rangers for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda. Three children, Manny & Yvonne Gonyer of Edmonton, Alberta Canada, Julianna & Mark Coran of Houlton, Maine and Pete & Chantel Gonyer of North Troy, Vt, He was blessed with 8 Grandchildren, Samantha James, Krystal Vance, Amanda, Ben, Matthew, Brianna Coran, Hayden and Ella Gonyer. 5 Great Grandchildren, Aayden James, Alanna Vance, Natasha James, Landen Vance, and Wade James. Two Sisters, Beverly and Louise, and Brother Frank.
