Edward G.
Laroe Jr.
Feb 25, 1942 — Feb 17, 2023
Edward G. LaRoe Jr., 80, of Norton, VT passed away on February 17, 2023 at his home in Norton. He was born on February 25, 1942 in Hartford, CT to the late Edward Sr. and Rose (Kwatkowski) LaRoe.
Edward (Poppy) was owner and operator of LaRoe Trucking, a tradition he continued from his father and passed on to his son Steven (LaRoe Transport Inc). Earlier in his career, he was also a certified GM technician, diesel mechanic, and could fix anything. In the 70's while living in Miami, he would also repair recreational yachts on weekends (GM inboards) for several Miami Dolphin players & assistant coaches. He was a life long tinkerer and never fully retired as he continued to pursue a variety of projects and tasks on the farm, garage, and barn. He was an avid animal lover, especially his dogs (Zack & Lady) and stayed busy working on anything that needed to be fixed or improved. He was also an outstanding cook and would draw many family and friends to the farmhouse kitchen when word got out that "Poppy" was cooking dinner. Especially his chili and spaghetti sauce.
He loved music, riding motorcycles (Harley), quads, family gatherings, and celebrations. His best friend was his wife of 62 years Geraldine "Ma" LaRoe. He was a steadfast romantic who loved his wife and family dearly.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine LaRoe, children Todd LaRoe, Kimberly Willis, Steven LaRoe, and Angela Barnett, grandchildren Noah Barnett, Ashley LaRoe, Chelsea and Sydnie Willis, Samantha Anderson, Scott LaRoe and Amanda LaRoe-Smith, great grandchildren William, Cooper, Max and Grace Anderson, Lily and Abby, his brothers David, Gerald, Alan, Brian and Craig LaRoe, sister Karen Slowik, as well as his brother-in-law Russell Lennon and wife Diane, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Keith LaRoe.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family (especially Poppy) wish donations be made to the following Go Fund Me (GFM) page, as family shifts focus to the care & recovery of his beloved granddaughter Amanda-LaRoe-Smith, who continues her battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and served as primary caregiver for Poppy the last two years during his battle with cancer. https://gofund.me/503245f5
Last but not least, the family would like to thank the entire NEK community, Orleans/Essex VNA & Hospice teams, Doctors & Nurses in Newport, St Johnsbury & Dartmouth, and especially Sharon who was a godsend the last two years caring for our Dad. God bless all and Thank You from the bottom of our hearts On-line condolences may be made at curtis-britch.com.
