Edward Gene Hibbs

August 9, 1950 – June 8, 2025

Edward Gene Hibbs, 74, passed away on June 8, 2025, in Island Pond, Vermont, where he had recently relocated from California to be closer to his beloved family.

Born and raised in Modesto, California, Ed lived a life defined by dedication, humility, and love. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He later spent over 30 years working at the Monterey County correctional facility, retiring in 2003 as a Sheriff's Deputy. It was there that he met the love of his life, Raynell where they shared over 40 years of marriage built on strength, loyalty, and laughter.

Ed was a devoted husband, standing faithfully by Raynell's side as she navigated her battle with Lupus. The two shared countless memories, including two cross-country trips that became cherished highlights of their life together. In his final years, Ed found joy in being near family in Vermont — especially with his great-grandson Roman, with whom he shared a deep and special bond.

He is survived by his sister Lynn; daughter Kristin (and her husband Michael); stepdaughter Michelle; stepson Jimmy; granddaughters Kim (and her partner Anthony) and Haley (and her husband Dylan);  his great-grandson Roman, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Raynell, his parents, his sister Gail, and his son-in-law Nate.

In keeping with Ed's wishes, no public services will be held. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now reunited with Raynell, his lifelong partner and soulmate.
