Obituary

Constance "Connie" Daigle passed peacefully at Michaud  Manor in Derby Line on August 23, 2026. Connie was born in Lowell, Vt. On August 28th 1932. She was predeceased by her husband Conrad Daigle, by her parents Napoleon Diette and Beatrice Ledoux and her brother Fred Diette.

Connie worked for Attorney Andrew Pepin for many years, she ran the Westfield General Store with her husband Conrad for 10 years, and she was the Superior County Court Clerk for Orleans County for 25 years.

Connie was an active community member. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella at St. Mary's Church, a member of the Hospital Auxillary, and she began the Guardian ad Litem program in Newport. She was the founder of the Orleans County Citizens Advocacy, a program similar to Big, Sister Big Brother that matched volunteers with Special needs adults. She served on the Northeast Kingdom Mental Health board, the Brownington Historical Society, and she was a Rotary member, to name a few.

Connie was a staunch advocate for the Special Needs community. She volunteered for Special Olympics and many activities for people with special needs. Connie and Conrad also hosted exchange students from Japan and Vietnam. Connie even travelled to Vietnam with one of her students. This was a wonderful experience for her.

Connie was an avid hiker and a member of the Green Mountain Club. She introduced many young people to the Long Trail where she often hiked with her dog.

Connie leaves behind her brother Maurice Diette from Massachusetts, her sister Claudette Diette from Zephyr Hills, Florida, and her sister Paulette and husband Vincent Vitale from Moore, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind three children. Lisa and husband Michael Farney from Newport Center, her son Peter Daigle from Shelburne, Vt and daughter Julie and husband Robert Carpenter from Milton, Vt.

Connie leaves five grandchildren; Colton Carpenter and wife Ciara from Georgia, Vt, Matthew Farney and wife Nicole from Jay, Vt , Ben Farney and partner Emma Radeka from Westfield, Vt, Joe Daigle and wife Lisa from St. Albans, Vt and Aubrey Arnold and husband Andrew from Richford, Vt. She also leaves several great grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Connie was a special person. A mother to many and an advocate for anyone who needed one. Connie's house was an open door and many can attest to her amazing cooking. She lived a full life.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Michaud Manor and the amazing staff for the special care and love they gave Connie. A special thanks to the hospice staff who supported Connie at the end of life.

Services will be held at St Mary's Church in Newport at 11:00 on September 24,th  with burial to follow at St. Mary's cemetery, as well as a reception at the Eastside Restaurant.
