Carilyn C.
(Benjamin) Colby
Jun 12, 1935 — Nov 18, 2023
Carilyn C. Colby (Benjamin), age 88, peacefully made her way to heaven on November 18, 2023, with her youngest daughter lovingly by her side.
Born in a cozy little cabin in Bradford, VT on June 12, 1935, Carilyn was the youngest daughter to Lawrence and Catherine Benjamin. At age 18, she devotedly married the love of her life, John Colby Sr, sharing 51 years together and raising four beautiful children. She worked many years at Bradford's Hill's 5 & 10 and as a seamstress at a sewing factory. In the summer 2002, Carilyn and John made the move to Newport to be closer to family.
Carilyn, a fun and spirited soul, lived her life for God and her beautiful family. With an incredible artistic talent, she spent many years creating stunning oil paintings of historical buildings in and around Vermont, sewed, gardened, yodeled, and prayed. She walked to town backwards, counted passing cars, and always made her family laugh at her silly antics. Whether she was dressing up as a clown (fitting for her personality) for her great grandchildren, playing cards or singing, Carilyn always lifted the spirit of those around her. She read the Bible daily and lived her life faithful to God. Sincere, sensitive, and supportive, she was the center stone of her family - offering the warmest of hugs, sweetest of prayers, most heartfelt tears and always with a reminder that "Jesus loves you".
Carilyn is predeceased by her husband John Colby Sr, her daughter Carol Robie, and her sister Marilyn Betts. She leaves behind her loving brothers David Benjamin (Peep Benjamin) and Bobby Benjamin (Late Patty Benjamin), her son John Colby Jr, Craig Colby (Rachel Cook), daughter Kathy Corriveau (Clement Corriveau), son in law Scott Robie, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many dearly beloved cousins.
As the family mourns and finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, they ask your kind condolences to be sent in the form of prayer. A private service will be held in the late spring.
