Obituary

Aril Wayne Grant

March 15, 1930 - December 9, 2024

Aril Wayne Grant, 94, of Island Pond, Vt. passed away December 9, 2024 in Newport, Vt. He was born March 15, 1930 in Morgan, Vt. to Henry and Cora (Allen) Grant. He married Joan Stevens Grant July 12, 1953. She predeceased him September 25, 2021.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was extremely proud of serving, and loved it when someone would notice his Air Force cap and thank him.

After the service, he worked as an operating engineer running heavy equipment for road construction companies. He worked on the Moore Dam in Littleton, NH and sections of all the interstates in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Aril and his family moved frequently to follow his jobs until settling in Randolph for 6 years before moving back to Island Pond. He was best known for operating a D9 bulldozer and earned a nickname Magic Blade.

He loved hunting and fishing. He could be seen many days in his little fishing boat on one of the many lakes around Island Pond. He spent a lot of hunting seasons at his brother's camp in Randolph making memories with him and his boys.

Aril retired in 1985, and that began his and Joan's many travels. They visited all of the 49 states they could drive to, and many of them more than once. They made friends everywhere they went, but were always happy to return to Island Pond for the summer.

Their favorite trip was driving to Alaska with his brother-in-law and his wife. Oh the stories they would both tell!!! If they weren't traveling, they spent their winters in Arizona then Florida and later when traveling was difficult, they spent the winters in Pennsylvania with his daughter Lori

Aril is survived by his children, Linda Bingham and husband Randy, James Grant and wife Deb, Lori DiRinaldo and husband Joel;

Grandchildren Jason Bingham, Cory Bingham (Brandy), Travis Bingham (Torie), Jamie Allen (Greg), Tyler Grant (Ashton); Great-grandchildren Nicholas, Taylor, Brodie, Lauryn, Raylee, Jadin, Avery, Tate, Jhett, Harper, Addilyn, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Buddy Grant. Aril was predeceased by his wife, Joan, and his young son, Nicholas. He was also predeceased by his sister Juanita, and brothers Chesley, Lindell, and Deldon.
