The Curtis-Britch Funeral Home at 37 Lake Road, Newport,Vermont received a Vermont State Garden Club Landscaping Award for the beautiful garden on its site. Curtis-Britch was nominated by the Orleans County Four Seasons Garden Club.
The original garden was designed and started by the late Justin A.C. Curtis, former owner of the Curtis-Britch Funeral Home. Mr. Curtis graduated from Cornell University in 1923 with a Bachelors of Science in Landscape Architecture and Floriculture. The garden was constructed in 1935 and was maintained by his wife, Frances Gates Curtis, for many years. Today the garden is maintained by Pierre Legacy and for the past several years was maintained by Crystal M. Britch.

The grounds of the funeral home are an unusual setting for joyous occasions, but the gardens at Curtis-Britch are the site for many graduation pictures, wedding pictures, and artists paintings of the beautiful gardens. One cannot help but notice the beautiful gardens on the way in and out of Newport along the Lake Road. The flowers in the garden change with the seasons and are always very appealing. It is the desire of the current owner, Roland Britch, that everyone who passes by is able to enjoy the gardens. He is successful in this endeavor!
